Starting this week, I’m going to be making a real effort to plan out our dinners. I hate the sinking feeling I get when I look at the clock to realize it’s 9 pm, it’s my turn to cook and I have no idea what to make (Yeah, we eat ridiculously late sometimes.). Plus, I think planning will help us save money and not make as many trips to the grocery store.
I know planning a weekly menus isn’t anything new and that most of you probably already do this already (Check out the yummy menus Citymama posts on Mondays). But I really need to improve my household management skills and this is me taking baby steps in the right direction. I’m planning on posting the menu here to help keep me on track–you know, peer pressure and whatnot.
- Monday (N): Perogies with sour cream and vegetables
- Tuesday (me): Roasted broccoli and shrimp with rice (recipe via Mindy)
- Wednesday (N): Crockpot Chicken Cacciatore
- Thursday (me): Teriyaki Chicken, rice, and salad with sesame dressing
- Friday: Pulled pork sandwiches (I bought a package of pulled pork and Costco that we’re going to try)
- Saturday: take out
- Sunday: leftovers
How are you guys? I always like to see what other people are cooking. Whatcha making?
Hey!! That's a great idea! I always like ideas for dinner… š Don't mind if I take some of yours!! š
What's perogie? The roasted broccoli and shrimp sounds delish! and so does the teriyaki chicken! and what is cacciatore?
Tonight I am debating on spaghetti squash with spaghetti sauce and ground turkey OR bean/cheese burrito. The latter would be faster… But it's boring!

Perogies are little dumplings filled with mashed potatoes and cheese or other ingredients. I think they're Russian/Slavic in origin. N used to eat them a lot on his mission. We buy them frozen and then N sautes them with some onions or spinach. Cacciatore is an Italian dish of chicken cooked with tomatoes and mushrooms and usually a bit of wine.
You should totally try the shrimp and broccoli dish. We had it last night and it was delicious. It's super easy to make and pretty healthy too.
I sometimes have a craving for specific entree, like pasta or fish or beef or whatever – and then I google a couple of ingredients and then find a recipe that way. It's hard to really plan ahead because we both work and we are juggling drop-offs and pick-ups of 1 child or 2 children at any given day… I also like to browse through foodie/chef blog friends' blogs and find recipes that way. š
