The best fifty cents I’ve spent in a while

Before we had E, I was seldom up and about on Saturdays until after the garage sales were over (sleeping in, how I miss you!). But this summer I realized that since E and I are already up pretty early on Saturdays we might as well hit a sale or two.

These are two of my favorite finds of the summer. Both were a bargain at a quarter a piece. E especially likes the phone and will talk to himself on it as we’re driving around. His conversations usually go something like, “..lo? Um, (nonsensical babbling)…Um, (nonsensical babbling)…” It cracks us up.

…and we’re off!

We’re heading off this morning to visit family in Seattle and Olympia. We didn’t get E his own seat so hopefully he’ll be happy chilling on our laps. We got him a portable DVD player so he can watch his beloved Yo Gabba Gabba on the plane. Let’s hope our nefarious plan to lull him into a media-induced catatonic state works. For the sake of the poor sap sitting next to us I really hope it succeeds.

While we’re away I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up the daily posting but I’ll try and check in when I can.

YAY!!!

It’s official. I’m no longer allowed to whine about how I never win anything. I entered a giveaway on CityMama’s product review site a couple of weeks ago and today Stefania emailed me to let me know that I had won! I’m still ridiculously excited about the whole thing. N had to put up with me exclaiming, “I can’t believe I won!” over and over at random moments all last night.

The Breville grill I won looks great. I’ve been wanting an indoor grill for a while now. Since we don’t have an outdoor grill we’ve never cooked steaks or that sort of thing at home. I can’t want to try it out. It looks like it’s really well made and easy to use. I would have never dropped the cash necessary to get a nice grill like this so I’m grateful to have won. I’m not sure when it’s going to arrive, but I’ll definitely post a review after I try it out.

If you haven’t checked out CityMama, I would recommend it. I’ve been reading Stefania’s blog for 2 or 3 years now. She’s a great cook and I like seeing the food she makes her family. It enables my daydreaming about being a good cook some day. She also has a background in marketing/PR and has some great insights about the business end of blogging. She was one of the founding members of Kimchi Mamas (another blog I follow) AND she’s half-Korean and has cute kids. ‘Nuff said.

Thank you Stefania and thank you Breville!

Paperless Post

I’m a big stationary nerd. I could spend hours pouring over paper samples and dithering over fonts. And even though we’re basically homebodies and don’t entertain that often I spent entirely too much time yesterday puttering around on paperlesspost.com designing invitations for various fake events.

Paperless Post basically offers classy evites that mimic the look and feel of receiving a nice piece of stationary in the mail. The designs are pretty charming and well-photographed: you can even seen the grain of the paper.

I heard about the site from this article in yesterday’s NY Times. Paperless post is still in beta but you can sign up and get 25 free stamps. (Instead of using advertising, users buy stamps to send invitations starting at $5 for 60 stamps.)

If you’re hosting a 4th of July barbecue or some other event this summer it might be fun to try it out.

Hi, my name’s Faith, and you are…?

Whoo-hoo! I’ve made it to 250 posts! When I started this blog I wasn’t sure how long I was going keep up with it. But over a year later I have to say that I’m enjoying it quite a bit.

I originally started this blog to keep family and friends updated on the goings-on of E, but connecting with neat people here in blogland has been an appreciated bonus. It does make me kind of curious about who is reading, though.

So, how about you? What brings you to my neck of the interwebs?

Absentminded Me

So I wanted to post about the progress I’m making on the jewelry boxes…and so I took the memory card out of my camera to download the pictures I took at class…and then I was distracted by my increasingly-active toddler and set the card down somewhere.

That was yesterday and I am still looking for it. *grumble, grumble, sigh.*

So (hopefully) I’ll have a real post up later with pictures.
