I’m taking a two-week photography class from the very talented Bryan Niven (portfolio and blog). Since it’s through the local community ed program it’s pretty casual. Last week only three other students showed up to class. I felt a little out of place since they were all easily over 60 but I enjoyed the lecture.
We were supposed to come up with three different concepts for our homework. Last night the girls in our church youth group went to the Thanksgiving Point gardens and I bought my camera along so I could do my homework.
I need to narrow these pictures down to three: the first one is my favorite but I’m not sure about what other two to use. I’d love any input. What do you think?
So how about you? Which ones would you turn in?
My favorite was the doorway. It makes you wonder what's behind it. The foreground is dark and through the door is very bright so it makes me think it's a door to a magical land. I also like the upclose of the flowers
I like the framing a lot. So I second Britt's vote. 🙂 The motion is cool… but the selective focus one stands out more to me… (hm, sounds like Britt and I agree on both counts.)
I agree with the above. Great photos!
I like #1,#3, & #6. The bright, bold colors really capture my attention.
I love the last one!
It was great to see you. The pict of all of us is on my blog.
The fish one is boss.
The fish are great! I'm guessing you took the shot hand-held with a long exposure–impressive, because you've only got a little blur on the lily-pads. What was your shutter speed? The other two I liked best are #2 & #6. I think I liked not just the lines in #2, but the nice contrast/highlights you got. The colors in #6 are stellar, and its so nicely pictureseque. I kept going back and forth on the doorway – don't know if you can do photoshop adjustments or not for class, but what happens when you increase the brightness just a tad, so you might pick up a little more of the brick detail? Okay, so more than you probably wanted to hear…
Thanks for all the input, everyone!
Jared, I think my shutter speed was one second and something on the fish picture but I was bracing my camera against a railing.
