My friend Kristin and I hosted a baby shower for a neighbor last night and I made these mini trifles for the party. I think they went over pretty well; a couple people asked for the recipe.
I used this Tyler Florence recipe. I was feeling slightly ambitious and so I also made my own lemon curd using this recipe. (I wasn’t feeling up to making my own pound cake though. I like to use Costco’s; it’s really good).
I love making lemon curd: I find the constant stirring meditative. There’s something magical about stirring, stirring, stirring and then suddenly bam!–the mixture thickens and turns into curd. I know I’m a nerd, but I think it’s fun. It’s kind of like a science experiment. And besides, an 11 oz jar of lemon curd was $5 at the store (and I needed two or three) while a huge bag of lemons was under $5 at Costco.
And I’m cheap like that.
I'm so sad I missed the shower. Those look awesome! I planned on going all day, but it just wasn't in the cards for me I guess. I hope you had a good turn out.
I don't even know what lemon curd is! But I do know that it tasted absolutely yummy. I think we should host a shower every couple months just so I can eat one of your trifles.
Those look lovely. And I love eating lemon curd… perhaps I would also like making it. I'm impressed you made it from scratch.
Sounds and looks delicious! It's great that you made your own lemon curd! I'm not much of a baker, so it's not something I would even consider…
I've made quite a few trifles (N's family likes them at get-togethers) and this is my favorite recipe by far. If you don't feel up to making the lemon curd (although it's surprisingly easy, give it a try!) you can buy it in the jam and jellies section at the store.
See..I do actually read your blog…thanks for the recipe!
